I am also learning about Ham Radio... that seems to be a wise addition to my travel stuff... since I hope to spend a lot of time out of cell-phone range.

It's the end of summer, and I'm getting ready for my future, highly-anticipated American Driveabout... conceptually, much like the Australian Aborigine's walkabout.
I bought a used 2001 Ford F150 with only 55000 miles on it, 4x4 off-road truck. It has a V8, which should pull better than the 1998 Jeep Cherokee I was planning on using.
Right now, my friend Weldon and I have started playing with Solar Power... both of us have recently purchased some Solar Power components and are testing various configurations to see what works best for us.
I plan on using Solar along with my Driveabout. Weldon plans on using it as a backup to the power grid . Possibly, replacing being on the grid as much as possible.
